13 JUNE 2024 – NRCS ACT AMENDMENTS OPEN FOR COMMENTARY

On the 3rd of June 2024 the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition published a general notice that section 13(4) of the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (“NRCS”) Act is to be amended. The NRCS amendments creates new compulsory specifications for:

  • dried abalone;
  • chilled smoked fish and smoke-flavoured finfish and products derived therefrom;
  • frozen fish, frozen marine molluscs and frozen products derived therefrom;
  • frozen shrimps (prawns), langoustines and crabs, and products derived therefrom.

These amendments include new factory and processing facility requirements, as well as a revised application process surrounding the exporting and importing of these products.
The Minister has invited the public to submit written comments in respect of the proposed amendments by the 3rd of August 2024. Should you have any queries or require any assistance in relation to the submission of comments please do not hesitate to contact our team.
